Luz BeachLuz beach is a gently shelving beach, with soft golden sands. The remnants of volcanic activity from long ago can been seen at the far end of the beach, know locally as the Rocha Negra or 'Black Rock'. Rock pools and a beach-front restaurant, complete with children’s play area make the beach a great place for all the family!
Behind the beach are some very impressive multicoloured sandstone cliffs. They are filled with greens, pinks, oranges and all sorts of other colours - very pretty and worth a closer look!! The beach has it's own Blue Flag, and has full-time professional life guards on duty at all times. It is great for all kinds of water sports made available by 'Algarve Watersports' & 'The Beach Hut', the two centers on the beach. There is an area cordoned off by buoys and ropes where ALL boats must enter the beach. Boats and swimmers just don't mix!! This makes it much safer for those of you who just want to swim or play in the sea with inflatables.
If surfing is your thing and you think that the Algarve has nothing to offer you, then you're wrong. There are several groups operating days out to the various
breaks, ranging from a 40min journey to an hour or so away. These usually
include hire of equipment and wetsuit (if required) and cater for all
levels.
